Emily, neurodivergent counsellor at Counsel of Neurodivergent Minds
About

We know this place because we've lived it.

ADHD and autism. Unrecognised, unsupported, trying to function in a world that was never built with people like us in mind. We lost ourselves completely before we found our way back.

We are also parents of neurodivergent children. We've sat in those meetings, fought for the right support, and watched our kids struggle in spaces that weren't made for them. This isn't just our work - it's our life.

We are neurodivergent students who struggled in school and at university - and found our way through. We know what it's like to be the one who doesn't fit, who needs something different, who has to fight to be understood. And we came out the other side.

We didn't have people like us to guide us. We had to piece things together through years of training, research, therapy, support groups, books, and lived experience.

Today, that journey informs the way we work with clients. We've completed a full counselling pathway - from Level 2 through to BSc (Hons) in Counselling Skills and Therapeutic Communication - which included trauma and grief training - guided by the BACP Ethical Framework - and is currently pursuing a Master's in the same field - alongside mentor training and specialist training in safeguarding, mental health first aid, and suicide prevention. All of it built on the perspective of people who have walked this path and know what it actually feels like from the inside.

FAQ

Common questions

No. You're welcome whether you're diagnosed, self-identifying, questioning, waiting for assessment, or late identified. You don't need a diagnosis to deserve support.

They follow different frameworks. Our counselling is guided by the BACP Ethical Framework and backed by a BSc (Hons) in Counselling Skills and Therapeutic Communication. It's regulated, supervised, and works at a therapeutic depth - helping you understand why things feel the way they do. Our mentoring is practical, goal-focused, and grounded in lived experience. It helps you build strategies for the present. We offer both, depending on what you need, but they're not the same thing and we don't pretend they are.

Yes. We hold holistic professional insurance for talking therapies, are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for data protection, and hold an enhanced DBS check. Our counselling practice is guided by the BACP Ethical Framework.

Sessions are collaborative and adapted to you. We might talk, use visual tools, work through sensory triggers, build executive function strategies, or just sit with what's present. You set the pace.

We support all neurodivergences: ADHD, Autistic, Dyslexic, Dyspraxic, Tourette's, and those who are questioning or who identify with neurodivergent experiences without a specific label.

We work alongside needs workers, social workers, CMHT, and other professionals. We can coordinate with your existing support network - but we can't replace it. If you have complex needs that require a multi-disciplinary team, we'll be honest about what we can offer and help you figure out what's right. The free 15-minute consultation is a good time to talk through whether we're the right fit.

Therapy needs you to be able to show up, build trust, and work together. If that feels impossible right now - for any reason - that's okay. The 15-minute consultation is a no-pressure chance to talk about whether this is the right time and what might help more. Sometimes the right support isn't therapy right now, and we'll help you find what you need.
